A suspected Ukrainian aircraft carrying weapons was briefly detained and freed by security operatives at Malam Aminu Kano international airport in Kano state northwest Nigeria.
A source close to airport security told Channels Television that the aircraft had landed for repairs when security began investigations and discovered a large quantity of weapons.
“The aircraft landed at about 2am on Sunday and has been freed this afternoon,” he said.
All effort to speak with either the officials of the Federal Aviation Authority or the airport officials was not successful as spokespersons of both agencies were said to have left office.
However, a source close to the Nigerian army told Channels Television that an aircraft from one of the African countries was intercepted.
“I know an aircraft was intercepted earlier today but I don’t know where it came from or where it is going,” he said
